Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in South Carolina?
Engineering and construction firms with active South Carolina operations have filed H-1B petitions for structural project engineers, including nationally recognized firms like AECOM, WSP, and Jacobs, as well as regional practices such as Davis & Floyd and Bunnell-Lammons Engineering. Industrial growth around the Upstate region, driven by automotive and aerospace manufacturing, has also created demand at firms supporting those capital projects.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for structural project engineers in South Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Candidates with a Canadian or Mexican citizenship may pursue the TN visa under the USMCA. Those with extraordinary ability or a national interest waiver may qualify for O-1 or EB-2 NIW pathways, respectively.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Greenville and Spartanburg in the Upstate region concentrate the most structural engineering activity, supported by heavy manufacturing investment from BMW, Michelin, and their supplier networks. Columbia, the state capital, drives demand through public infrastructure and government-adjacent projects. Charleston sees consistent project work linked to port expansion, military installations, and coastal infrastructure, making it a secondary hub for sponsoring employers.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search for structural project engineer roles in South Carolina without sorting through employers that don't sponsor. The platform is built for international candidates, making it straightforward to identify which South Carolina firms are actively hiring for this role and are open to H-1B or other work visa sponsorship.
Are there any state-specific considerations for structural project engineers seeking sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina does not require a state-specific engineering license to begin work, but practicing as a Professional Engineer (PE) requires licensure through the South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. International candidates often enter under the supervision of a licensed PE while pursuing their own license. The state's infrastructure and industrial growth, particularly in the Upstate, has supported consistent demand for mid-level structural engineers with sponsorship potential.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
