What You'll Need:
- JD and 8+ years proven track record practicing law in large US law firms or in-house at major US or European companies, demonstrating continual growth and the ability to succeed in those environments.
- Strong academic credentials and qualification to practice in at least one US state, with the ability to become licensed in Florida or Washington State as in-house counsel.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requires.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain sophisticated legal issues clearly and simply.
- Outstanding analytical skills with a business-centric focus on risk.
- Excellent time management skills and experience leading to a diverse workload and challenging stakeholder demands.
- Be an excellent teammate, self-motivated, able to demonstrate a history of optimally resolving sophisticated legal issues, and able to successfully deliver sound and clear legal risk analysis advice in a fast-paced, iterative business setting.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and build consensus among various team members while maintaining a compliant approach.
- Ability to accommodate working with East Coast time zones and occasional travel.
- Experience working in e-commerce, commercial transactions, and/or SaaS is required.
- Experience in healthcare is a plus.

Which companies sponsor visas for corporate counsel roles in Florida?
Large multinationals and publicly traded companies headquartered in Florida are the most active sponsors for corporate counsel positions. Carnival Corporation in Miami, Raymond James Financial and Citigroup's Tampa operations, and major healthcare systems like AdventHealth and HCA Florida regularly hire corporate legal professionals. Law departments at these organizations have established immigration processes and are familiar with sponsoring H-1B visa and other work visas for qualified attorneys.
Which visa types are most common for corporate counsel roles in Florida?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for corporate counsel roles in Florida, as the position requires a Juris Doctor or foreign law degree equivalent, satisfying the specialty occupation requirement. Attorneys from Canada and Mexico may qualify under the TN visa's lawyer category. Those with extraordinary legal accomplishments may pursue the O-1A. L-1A and L-1B visas are also used when candidates transfer from a related foreign entity of a Florida-based company.
Which cities in Florida have the most corporate counsel sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads the state for corporate counsel sponsorship activity, driven by its concentration of multinational corporations, international trade companies, and Latin American regional headquarters. Tampa follows, with a strong financial services and healthcare sector. Orlando has seen growing demand within hospitality, technology, and tourism-adjacent industries. Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville also host corporate legal departments, particularly within logistics, insurance, and banking companies with significant Florida operations.
How to find corporate counsel visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles, including corporate counsel positions across Florida. The platform filters job listings by sponsorship willingness, so you can focus on Miami, Tampa, and Orlando employers actively open to sponsoring legal professionals. Searching by role type on Migrate Mate surfaces in-house legal opportunities at multinationals and large domestic employers that have sponsored foreign workers in the past.
Are there state-specific considerations for corporate counsel candidates seeking sponsorship in Florida?
Foreign attorneys seeking corporate counsel roles in Florida should be aware that practicing law in Florida requires Florida Bar admission. In-house corporate counsel positions may qualify for a specific exemption under Florida Bar rules that allows foreign-licensed attorneys to work in certain capacities without full admission, but this is subject to employer requirements and legal interpretation. Candidates should independently verify Bar admission requirements with the Florida Bar and consult a qualified immigration attorney regarding their individual situation.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored corporate counsel jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
