Which companies in Texas sponsor visas for corporate counsel roles?
Large corporations with established in-house legal departments are the most consistent sponsors. In Texas, that includes energy companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron Phillips Chemical in Houston, telecom and media firms like AT&T in Dallas, and technology companies like Dell and Tesla in the Austin area. Financial institutions with significant Texas operations, including JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, also sponsor corporate counsel positions.
What visa types are most commonly used for corporate counsel roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for corporate counsel positions, as the role typically requires a Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree, satisfying the specialty occupation requirement. Candidates with an active state bar license strengthen the petition considerably. Attorneys from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may be eligible under the TN visa category, which includes lawyers as a qualifying profession.
How to find corporate counsel visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find corporate counsel roles in Texas where employers are open to visa sponsorship. The platform filters specifically for sponsoring employers, so you're not sorting through listings that don't apply to international candidates. Focus your search on Houston, Dallas, and Austin, where in-house legal hiring is most concentrated among energy, technology, and financial services companies.
Which cities in Texas have the most corporate counsel visa sponsorship opportunities?
Houston leads for energy sector in-house roles, with a concentration of multinational oil and gas companies that maintain large legal departments. Dallas-Fort Worth is strong for financial services, telecom, and retail legal teams, given the regional headquarters density. Austin has grown significantly as a hub for technology company legal hiring, particularly as firms like Tesla, Apple, and Oracle have established or expanded Texas operations.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for corporate counsel visa sponsorship candidates?
Texas does not require bar reciprocity for in-house counsel roles the way litigation positions do, but employers will generally expect candidates to be licensed in at least one U.S. state or to be working toward Texas bar admission. The energy sector in Houston creates unusually high demand for attorneys with regulatory, contracts, or environmental law backgrounds. Candidates with experience in oil and gas, LNG, or pipeline regulatory matters are particularly competitive in the Texas market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored corporate counsel jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
