Which companies sponsor visas for systems engineers in Florida?
Defense and aerospace contractors are the most active sponsors for systems engineers in Florida. Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, and Boeing all have significant Florida operations and established sponsorship histories. Beyond defense, technology companies in the Tampa Bay area and Miami's growing tech sector also sponsor systems engineers, particularly those with backgrounds in cloud infrastructure, networking, or embedded systems.
Which visa types are most common for systems engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for systems engineers in Florida, as the role generally qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Some Florida defense contractors also sponsor L-1 visas for engineers transferring from international offices. Australian citizens may find E-3 visas available through certain employers, particularly in commercial technology roles.
Which cities in Florida have the most systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Orlando and the surrounding Space Coast corridor, including Melbourne and Titusville, concentrate the highest number of systems engineer sponsorship roles due to the density of defense and aerospace contractors in that region. Tampa and St. Petersburg have a growing base of technology employers offering sponsorship. Miami sees activity mainly through financial technology firms and Latin American regional headquarters requiring systems engineering talent.
How to find systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to employers who sponsor visas, so you can search systems engineer roles in Florida without sorting through positions that won't consider international candidates. Because Florida's sponsoring employers are concentrated in defense, aerospace, and technology, filtering by those industries on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to the most active sponsors in the state.
Are there state-specific considerations for systems engineers seeking sponsorship in Florida?
Florida's defense sector means a meaningful share of systems engineer roles require security clearances, which are available only to U.S. citizens and cannot be obtained by visa holders. This narrows the sponsorship pool compared to commercial tech markets. However, Florida's public research universities, including the University of Florida and University of Central Florida, generate strong engineering graduate pipelines that have helped normalize international hiring at many Florida employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored systems engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
