Which companies sponsor visas for systems engineers in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a strong base of systems engineer sponsors, particularly in defense and technology. Raytheon Technologies, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, General Dynamics, Dell EMC, and Cisco have all filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications for systems engineering roles in the state. Larger defense contractors tend to sponsor more frequently given the concentration of government contracts in the Greater Boston and Hanscom Air Force Base corridor.
Which visa types are most common for systems engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for systems engineers in Massachusetts, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. Candidates from Australia may also qualify under the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals can explore the TN visa under the engineer category, which does not require a separate petition filing.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Greater Boston, including Cambridge and Waltham, accounts for the largest share of systems engineer sponsorship activity in Massachusetts. Lowell and Burlington are also active, particularly for defense and networking firms. The Route 128 technology corridor running from Waltham through Lexington concentrates a significant number of engineering employers who have established H-1B sponsorship processes.
How to find systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters systems engineer roles in Massachusetts by visa sponsorship history, so you are not spending time on listings from employers who have never sponsored. The platform surfaces employers with verified H-1B and other work visa filings, which is particularly useful in Massachusetts where many smaller defense and tech firms sponsor but do not advertise it prominently.
Are there state-specific factors that affect systems engineer sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a high prevailing wage environment, which means employers sponsoring H-1B systems engineers must meet elevated Department of Labor wage requirements specific to the Boston and Lowell metropolitan areas. The state also benefits from strong university pipelines through MIT, Northeastern, and UMass Amherst, which means many local employers have existing international hiring infrastructure, including established relationships with immigration counsel.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored systems engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
