Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in Georgia?
The most active sponsors for attorney roles in Georgia are large law firms headquartered in Atlanta, including King & Spalding, Alston & Bird, Troutman Pepper, and Eversheds Sutherland. Corporate legal departments at Georgia-based companies in logistics, finance, and technology also sponsor attorneys. Sponsorship is most common for associates hired out of LLM programs or for attorneys with specialized practice area expertise.
Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in Georgia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for attorneys in Georgia, as legal positions requiring a J.D. or LLM generally qualify as specialty occupations. Some foreign-trained attorneys also enter on TN visas if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and meet the qualifying criteria. O-1A visas occasionally apply for attorneys with recognized achievements, such as published scholarship or significant case work.
Which cities in Georgia have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta accounts for the large majority of attorney visa sponsorship opportunities in Georgia. The city hosts the state's densest concentration of Am Law 200 firms, federal and state courts, and corporate headquarters. Savannah has a smaller but active legal market tied to its port and real estate sectors. Outside these two cities, attorney sponsorship activity is limited.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for attorney roles in Georgia to see employers with active sponsorship openings. This is more targeted than general job searches because listings are screened for sponsorship willingness, saving time for candidates who need employer support to obtain or maintain work authorization.
Are there state-specific factors that affect attorney visa sponsorship in Georgia?
Georgia requires foreign-trained attorneys to pass the Georgia Bar Exam before practicing independently, which affects eligibility timelines for some H-1B applicants. LLM graduates from Georgia law schools such as Emory University and Georgia State University are a common pipeline for sponsored associate roles at Atlanta firms. Prevailing wage requirements apply to all H-1B attorney positions and are set based on the specific job location and attorney classification.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
