ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Geotab is seeking a Lead Software Developer who will serve as an AI thought leader, driving technical innovation and leading impactful initiatives at massive data scale. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!
As a Lead Software Developer at Geotab, your key area of responsibility will be leading and evolving our data intake engine — one of the highest-throughput data pipelines in the industry, processing billions of rows of vehicle telemetry data every day. You will serve as an AI thought leader on the team, identifying opportunities to apply AI technologies to developer workflows and data processing challenges, and championing their adoption across the organization. You will need to work closely with engineering management and peer leads, collaborating to steer impactful, cross-organizational initiatives.
To be successful in this role you will be a self-driven problem solver with exceptional communication skills — someone who proactively identifies issues, presents solutions, and keeps stakeholders informed without being prompted. In addition, the successful candidate will have the initiative to take calculated risks, manage ambiguity, and drive projects to completion independently, while maintaining transparency and collaboration with those around them.
How you'll make an impact:
- Lead the evolution of Geotab's data intake engine, ensuring reliability and performance at massive scale — processing billions of rows of vehicle telemetry data daily.
- Drive AI transformation across the engineering organization by introducing and championing AI-assisted development methodologies, tools, and best practices.
- Proactively identify high-impact engineering problems, develop actionable plans, and execute with a high degree of autonomy.
- Partner with engineering managers and peer leads to shape technical strategy and guide cross-team initiatives from conception through delivery.
- Influence and elevate a broad group of developers, steering impactful initiatives and raising engineering standards across the organization.
- Act as a technical bar raiser in hiring and code quality, helping define what excellent, AI-fluent software development looks like at Geotab.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, predominantly on the Individual Contributor (IC) track.
- Proficiency in C# and .NET; Java or Golang backgrounds that translate well to C# are considered assets.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases at large scale.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and workflows (harness engineering, AIDL, or comparable methodologies).
- Proven ability to influence large engineering teams and steer high-impact technical initiatives across the organization.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of keeping technical and non-technical stakeholders proactively informed.
COMPENSATION
- Hiring Range: $116,400—$155,300 USD
The annual base salary for this position is the expected annual salary for this role, and may be subject to change. Geotab offers various perks and benefits and other compensation components that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary for this position depends on a variety of factors such as but not limited to skills, qualifications, education and overall experience, including the location the applicant lives while performing the job. Which companies sponsor visas for lead software engineers in Georgia?
Atlanta-based companies with consistent H-1B sponsorship records for senior engineering roles include NCR Voyix, Global Payments, Cox Enterprises, Delta Air Lines, Home Depot, and Fiserv. Major tech companies with Georgia engineering offices, including Microsoft and Google, also sponsor lead-level engineers. Defense contractors around the Marietta corridor, such as Lockheed Martin, sponsor engineers for roles that don't require security clearances.
Which visa types are most common for lead software engineer roles in Georgia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for lead software engineers in Georgia, as the role clearly qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1A or L-1B visas through intracompany transfers are also well represented in Atlanta's multinational employer base. Those with extraordinary ability may pursue an O-1A independently.
Which cities in Georgia have the most lead software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta accounts for the overwhelming majority of lead software engineer sponsorship jobs in Georgia. The Midtown and Buckhead districts host fintech, media, and enterprise software companies, while the Perimeter Center area has a dense cluster of large corporate headquarters. Alpharetta and Duluth, both northwest of Atlanta, have notable concentrations of technology and financial services employers that regularly hire at the lead engineer level.
How to find lead software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find lead software engineer roles in Georgia without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by role and state to surface active openings from Georgia employers who have a documented history of sponsoring work visas, including companies in Atlanta's fintech corridor and the broader metro technology sector.
Are there any Georgia-specific factors lead software engineers should know before pursuing sponsorship?
Georgia does not impose state-level visa requirements, but lead software engineer candidates should be aware that employers filing H-1B petitions must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the role in the specific metro area, typically the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metropolitan statistical area. Georgia Tech's proximity creates a competitive local talent pipeline, which means sponsors often have high expectations around specialization, particularly in areas like machine learning, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored lead software engineer jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
