Which companies in Indiana sponsor visas for lead software engineers?
Indianapolis-based employers are the most active sponsors. Salesforce, Eli Lilly, Cummins, and Anthem (now Elevance Health) have consistent H-1B filing histories for senior engineering roles. Indiana's major financial institutions and healthtech firms also sponsor regularly. Sponsorship activity is concentrated among mid-to-large employers with established HR and legal infrastructure for managing immigration petitions.
Which visa types are most common for lead software engineer roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for lead software engineers in Indiana, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1A or L-1B visas through multinational employers, or O-1 visas for those with demonstrated extraordinary ability, may also find pathways at Indiana companies.
Which cities in Indiana have the most lead software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the large majority of lead software engineer sponsorship activity in Indiana, driven by its concentration of corporate headquarters, healthtech companies, and fintech employers. Bloomington sees some activity tied to Indiana University's research and technology ecosystem. Fort Wayne has a smaller but emerging tech hiring presence, particularly among manufacturing-adjacent software teams.
How to find lead software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse lead software engineer roles in Indiana without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Because lead-level roles attract strong competition, focusing your search on employers with documented H-1B filing histories in Indiana, which Migrate Mate surfaces, can help prioritize applications toward realistic opportunities.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for lead software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Indiana employers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Indianapolis or relevant metropolitan area when filing an H-1B petition, and lead-level roles typically fall into higher wage tiers. Indiana's life sciences and manufacturing sectors add unique context: employers like Eli Lilly and Cummins often have internal immigration teams experienced with sponsorship, which can mean a more structured process for candidates compared to smaller companies.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored lead software engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
