Which companies sponsor visas for lead software engineers in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a wide range of employers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories at the lead software engineer level. Companies including MathWorks in Natick, HubSpot and Wayfair in Boston, Fidelity Investments in Boston, and athenahealth in Watertown appear consistently in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for senior and lead engineering roles. Large tech-adjacent firms in the Route 128 corridor also sponsor regularly.
Which visa types are most common for lead software engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for lead software engineers in Massachusetts, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT are common in this pipeline. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrable recognition in their field, though it requires substantial supporting evidence.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most lead software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of lead software engineer sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, anchored by the Seaport innovation district, Kendall Square, and the Back Bay office corridor. Waltham and Natick along the Route 128 technology belt are also significant, particularly for enterprise software and defense-adjacent tech companies. Worcester has a smaller but growing presence tied to its university ecosystem.
How to find lead software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter lead software engineer roles in Massachusetts by visa sponsorship availability so you are not sifting through listings that offer no sponsorship. Because Massachusetts employers span biotech, fintech, SaaS, and defense tech, filtering by industry alongside role and state helps narrow to the most relevant opportunities. Migrate Mate aggregates sponsoring employers so your search is focused from the start.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific considerations for lead software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Massachusetts sits in a high cost-of-living region, which affects the prevailing wage levels that employers must certify on a Labor Condition Application before filing an H-1B petition. The Boston area is designated a high-wage metro, meaning the DOL-required prevailing wage for lead software engineer roles here is among the higher thresholds nationally. Massachusetts also has a strong university pipeline through MIT, Boston University, and Northeastern that feeds directly into local sponsoring employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored lead software engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
