Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Idaho?
St. Luke's Health System and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center are Idaho's largest physician employers and have sponsored international physicians through both H-1B petitions and J-1 Conrad 30 waivers. Smaller critical access hospitals across rural Idaho, including facilities in Twin Falls, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls, also sponsor physicians, particularly in primary care and psychiatry where shortages are most acute.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Idaho?
The J-1 Conrad 30 waiver is the most common path for international physicians in Idaho. It allows J-1 exchange visitors who completed residency to remain in the U.S. by committing to three years of service in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area or Medically Underserved Area. Idaho allocates Conrad 30 waiver slots annually. H-1B sponsorship is also used, particularly by larger health systems for specialist roles.
Which cities in Idaho have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Boise and Meridian, as the state's most populous metro, host the highest concentration of physician sponsorship opportunities through major health systems and multispecialty groups. Idaho Falls and Pocatello in eastern Idaho have active recruitment needs, particularly in primary care and hospital medicine. Rural communities across southern and central Idaho frequently recruit internationally trained physicians through J-1 waiver programs tied to shortage area designations.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Idaho?
Migrate Mate filters physician jobs specifically to employers who offer visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify opportunities in Idaho without sorting through listings that exclude international candidates. You can search by role and state to find current openings at Idaho health systems, critical access hospitals, and multispecialty practices. Focusing on shortage area designations in your search helps identify positions most likely to support J-1 Conrad 30 waiver applications.
Are there state-specific considerations for physicians seeking sponsorship in Idaho?
Idaho participates in the J-1 Conrad 30 waiver program and designates Health Professional Shortage Areas across much of its rural geography, which expands options for internationally trained physicians beyond what urban states offer. Physicians pursuing Conrad 30 waivers must practice in an approved shortage area for three years. Idaho's medical licensing board has its own credentialing requirements, and processing timelines should be factored into any employment start date planning.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Idaho?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
