Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Mississippi?
University of Mississippi Medical Center is the state's largest academic health system and a consistent H-1B visa sponsor for physician roles. Merit Health operates multiple hospitals across Mississippi and regularly hires international physicians. Singing River Health System serves the Gulf Coast region and sponsors physicians in both primary and specialty care. Community Health Systems and federally qualified health centers throughout the state also participate in physician sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Mississippi?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for physicians in Mississippi, covering specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. The J-1 visa is also widely used through residency and fellowship programs, particularly at UMMC, though it carries a two-year home residency requirement that may need a waiver. Conrad 30 waivers are available for J-1 physicians who commit to practicing in underserved areas of Mississippi.
Which cities in Mississippi have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Jackson is the primary hub, home to University of Mississippi Medical Center and several large hospital networks. Biloxi and Gulfport on the Gulf Coast have notable physician demand through Singing River and Memorial Hospital systems. Hattiesburg, Meridian, and Tupelo each have regional medical centers that actively recruit physicians. Mississippi's high proportion of rural and federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas also generates sponsorship opportunities in smaller communities statewide.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Mississippi?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international physicians and other professionals seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter jobs by state to see Mississippi physician openings from employers who sponsor work visas, including H-1B and J-1 visa positions at health systems, rural clinics, and academic medical centers. Migrate Mate surfaces sponsorship-confirmed roles so you're not sorting through listings that don't apply to international candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician visa sponsorship in Mississippi?
Mississippi has more federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas and Medically Underserved Areas than most states, which creates practical advantages for J-1 physicians seeking Conrad 30 waivers. Physicians who commit to serving these communities for at least three years can have their two-year home residency requirement waived. The state medical board requires separate licensure, and international medical graduates must meet the same USMLE and residency completion standards as domestic applicants.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Mississippi?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
