Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Colorado?
The largest physician visa sponsors in Colorado include UCHealth, Centura Health, SCL Health (now Intermountain Health), and Children's Hospital Colorado. Veterans Affairs facilities in Denver and Aurora also sponsor physicians through federal hiring pipelines. Federally Qualified Health Centers serving rural and underserved communities are another active source of sponsorship, particularly for primary care and internal medicine roles.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Colorado?
The J-1 visa is widely used for physicians completing residency or fellowship training, often paired with a Conrad 30 waiver that allows the physician to work in an underserved area to satisfy the two-year home residency requirement. The H-1B is the primary work visa for physicians entering independent practice. O-1 visas occasionally apply to physicians with exceptional credentials or research profiles.
Which cities in Colorado have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Denver and its metro area, including Aurora and Lakewood, account for the largest share of physician sponsorship opportunities due to the concentration of major health systems and academic medical centers. Colorado Springs is a secondary hub with growing hospital networks. Rural areas in the San Luis Valley, Eastern Plains, and Western Slope also generate sponsorship openings, particularly for primary care physicians willing to fulfill Conrad 30 waiver obligations.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for physician roles in Colorado to see employers actively sponsoring work visas. This is more efficient than sorting through general job boards where sponsorship availability is rarely disclosed upfront. Migrate Mate updates listings regularly, so checking back frequently helps during active hiring cycles.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician visa sponsorship in Colorado?
Colorado participates in the Conrad 30 waiver program, which allows J-1 physicians to waive their two-year home residency requirement by committing to three years of practice in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area or Medically Underserved Area. Colorado's HPSA-designated rural communities create meaningful waiver placement opportunities. Physicians sponsored through this pathway must obtain Colorado medical licensure before beginning practice, which can take several months to complete.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
