Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Louisiana?
The largest physician visa sponsors in Louisiana include Ochsner Health, LCMC Health, Willis-Knighton Health System, and LSU Health New Orleans. Community health centers affiliated with federally qualified health center networks also sponsor physicians, particularly in rural parishes. Academic medical centers tied to Tulane University and Louisiana State University regularly file H-1B visa and J-1 waiver petitions for attending and resident physicians.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Louisiana?
H-1B is the most common visa for employed physicians in Louisiana, covering specialty and primary care roles at hospitals and group practices. J-1 Conrad 30 waivers are widely used, allowing international medical graduates who completed residency on a J-1 to remain in the U.S. by committing to work in a medically underserved area for three years. O-1 visas occasionally apply to physicians with exceptional credentials or research backgrounds.
Which cities in Louisiana have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
New Orleans has the highest concentration of physician sponsorship jobs, driven by Ochsner Medical Center, Tulane Medical Center, and University Medical Center. Baton Rouge follows, with Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Baton Rouge General sponsoring international physicians. Shreveport supports demand through LSU Health Shreveport and Willis-Knighton. Rural areas in the Mississippi Delta and central Louisiana also post sponsorship-eligible roles through federally funded health programs.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Louisiana?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Louisiana, with listings filtered by role and state so you are not sorting through positions that do not offer sponsorship. Search for physician roles filtered to Louisiana to see current openings at health systems, academic medical centers, and community clinics. Migrate Mate focuses specifically on roles where employers have demonstrated willingness to sponsor international candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician visa sponsorship in Louisiana?
Louisiana participates in the J-1 Conrad 30 waiver program, which reserves waiver slots for physicians who agree to practice in Health Professional Shortage Areas or Medically Underserved Areas across the state. The Louisiana Department of Health administers these allocations annually, and slots are competitive. Physicians seeking a Conrad waiver should engage a Louisiana-licensed employer early, as the state's 30 annual slots can fill before the federal fiscal year ends.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Louisiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
