Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Kansas?
The J-1 visa and H-1B visa are the two primary visa types for physicians in Kansas. The J-1 visa is frequently used for residency and fellowship training through programs affiliated with the University of Kansas School of Medicine. The H-1B is more common for permanent clinical positions. Physicians in J-1 status who complete training are subject to a two-year home residency requirement, though Conrad 30 waivers are available for those committing to underserved areas in Kansas.
Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Kansas?
The largest physician visa sponsors in Kansas include The University of Kansas Health System, Stormont Vail Health, Ascension Via Christi, and Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural critical access hospitals also sponsor physicians, particularly those seeking J-1 Conrad 30 waivers. Academic medical centers tend to have established immigration infrastructure, while smaller community hospitals may work with outside immigration counsel on a case-by-case basis.
Which cities in Kansas have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Wichita and Kansas City (Kansas side) account for the largest share of physician sponsorship opportunities in the state, driven by Ascension Via Christi, Wesley Medical Center, and The University of Kansas Health System campuses. Topeka sees consistent demand through Stormont Vail Health. Beyond these urban centers, rural areas including Garden City, Salina, and Liberal actively recruit internationally trained physicians, often tied to J-1 Conrad 30 waiver commitments in Health Professional Shortage Areas.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international physicians and other professionals seeking U.S. visa sponsorship. You can filter directly by state and role to see physician positions in Kansas where employers have a documented history of sponsoring work visas. This saves significant time compared to manually vetting job postings that don't disclose sponsorship. Migrate Mate also surfaces opportunities at smaller Kansas health systems and rural facilities that are easy to miss on general job searches.
Are there state-specific considerations for physicians seeking sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas participates in the Conrad 30 waiver program, which allows J-1 physicians to waive the two-year home residency requirement in exchange for a three-year service commitment at a designated shortage area facility. The state allocates up to 30 such waivers per federal fiscal year, and slots can be competitive. Physicians pursuing this path typically transition to H-1B status after waiver approval. Kansas also has an active rural health pipeline through the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita that influences how regional employers approach international recruitment.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
