Which companies sponsor visas for pathologists in Illinois?
Academic medical systems lead sponsorship activity in Illinois. Northwestern Medicine, University of Chicago Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, Loyola University Medical Center, and NorthShore University HealthSystem have documented H-1B filing histories for pathologist roles. Large regional health systems such as OSF HealthCare and Advocate Health also hire pathologists and have sponsored international physicians, particularly for anatomic and clinical pathology positions.
Which visa types are most common for pathologist roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa for pathologists in Illinois, as pathology meets the specialty occupation requirement through its degree standards. J-1 and H-1B visas are both used during fellowship training at Illinois academic centers. Pathologists with extraordinary ability or national recognition may also pursue the O-1. Permanent residency through EB-1B or EB-2 NIW is common for academic pathologists who have published research or hold leadership roles.
How to find pathologist visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters pathologist job listings in Illinois specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from manually screening postings that don't apply to international candidates. Search for pathologist roles on Migrate Mate and filter by Illinois to surface positions at academic medical centers and hospital systems that have active sponsorship programs. Subspecialty filters help narrow results to surgical pathology, cytopathology, or molecular diagnostics roles specifically.
Which cities in Illinois have the most pathologist sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the majority of pathologist sponsorship opportunities in Illinois, driven by its concentration of academic medical centers, large hospital networks, and private pathology group practices. Evanston, Maywood, and Oak Park, as suburbs hosting major hospital campuses, also generate openings. Outside the Chicago metro, Peoria stands out due to OSF HealthCare and UnityPoint Health systems, and Springfield has some activity through HSHS Medical Group.
Are there state-specific factors pathologists should know when pursuing sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois pathologists sponsored on H-1B visas must be paid at or above the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the relevant metropolitan statistical area, with Chicago-Naperville designated separately from downstate regions. Academic medical centers affiliated with University of Illinois, Northwestern, or University of Chicago often combine clinical pathology roles with research or teaching duties, which can support stronger visa petitions. Illinois has no state-level physician immigration incentive programs, so sponsorship depends entirely on the individual employer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored pathologist jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
