Which companies sponsor visas for personal assistants in Illinois?
Chicago-based employers most likely to sponsor personal assistants include large corporations with dedicated executive support functions, such as financial services firms, law firms, and consulting companies headquartered in the Loop. Private households employing estate managers or high-level personal assistants have also pursued sponsorship. Sponsorship is not universal and depends heavily on the specific role, the employer's legal infrastructure, and whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation.
Which visa types are most common for personal assistant roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most frequently used visa for personal assistant roles in Illinois when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as communications or business administration, and the employer can demonstrate the role meets specialty occupation standards. The O-1A is an option for candidates with extraordinary ability. B-1 visa status does not permit ongoing employment as a personal assistant, so employer-sponsored petitions through proper channels are required.
How to find personal assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for personal assistant roles in Illinois without wading through positions that don't support international candidates. You can narrow results by location, including Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Because personal assistant sponsorship depends heavily on the employer type and role structure, focusing on corporate and institutional employers rather than individual households tends to yield more viable listings.
Which cities in Illinois have the most personal assistant sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of personal assistant sponsorship opportunities in Illinois, driven by its concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major law firms, financial institutions, and private equity firms. Suburbs including Evanston, Oak Brook, and Lake Forest also see demand, particularly from high-net-worth households and corporate campuses. Outside the Chicago metro area, sponsorship activity for personal assistant roles is limited.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for personal assistants seeking visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet the Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirements for the Chicago metropolitan area, which are generally higher than national averages given the city's cost of living. The density of professional services firms in Chicago means that personal assistant roles tied to legal, financial, or consulting environments are more likely to meet specialty occupation criteria than general household or lifestyle management roles. Some candidates have also entered through university and corporate training pipelines based in Chicago.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored personal assistant jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
