Which manufacturing companies in Indiana sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Indiana manufacturers with documented STEM OPT hiring include Eli Lilly, Cummins, Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, and Dow AgroSciences. Smaller advanced manufacturing firms in the Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Columbus corridors also hire STEM OPT candidates, particularly for engineering and process improvement roles. Any employer hiring a STEM OPT student must be enrolled in E-Verify, which you can confirm before applying.
Which cities in Indiana have the most manufacturing F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis concentrates the broadest range of manufacturing employers, including life sciences and electronics producers. Lafayette is a significant hub due to Subaru and Wabash National operations, while Columbus hosts Cummins headquarters and a dense supplier network. Fort Wayne supports automotive and industrial manufacturing, and Terre Haute has growing pharmaceutical production activity. Each metro offers distinct industry specializations worth researching before targeting applications.
What types of manufacturing roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify must correspond to a STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs code from your degree. In manufacturing, this commonly includes process engineering, quality assurance, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain analytics, and automation or controls engineering. Roles requiring applied science or engineering coursework align most directly. The O*NET database lists occupation codes that help confirm whether a specific position qualifies under STEM OPT guidelines.
How do I find manufacturing F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for manufacturing employers in Indiana that have a history of sponsoring F-1 STEM OPT candidates, so you can focus applications on companies already familiar with OPT authorization requirements. Beyond the platform, confirm that target employers are E-Verify enrolled, review LCA filings through the OFLC Wage Search to assess sponsorship activity, and prioritize roles whose job descriptions align directly with your degree's STEM CIP code.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in manufacturing?
Indiana does not impose additional state-level visa restrictions, but its manufacturing base is heavily tied to automotive and life sciences supply chains, which carry their own hiring cycles and project-based employment patterns. STEM OPT authorization is employer-specific, so a role change requires a new Form I-983 training plan. Indiana's manufacturing employers often work with DSOs at Purdue University, Indiana University, and Rose-Hulman, making those university career networks particularly relevant for STEM OPT job seekers in the state.
