SUMMARY
The Mid-Sr. Designer for Global Navigation and Search supports the Unified Experience (UE) Core portfolio at Lilly. Operating as a flexible individual contributor, this role shifts dynamically between Global Navigation and Search initiatives based on evolving business priorities and product capacity. The position balances high-fidelity visual execution with strategic UX problem-solving, maintaining connective cohesion across primary user journeys and actively contributing reusable navigation and search patterns back into the global design system.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Deliver end-to-end user experience and visual design solutions for Global Navigation and Search surfaces based on priorities set by UE Core leadership.
- Transition fluidly between navigation and search workstreams as team capacity and business needs shift, rather than managing a single fixed digital property.
- Collaborate closely with respective surface design leads on complex UX challenges, interface architecture, and visual craft.
- Maintain cross-surface visual and interaction consistency between navigation and search components, preserving their shared connective role across the user journey.
- Partner with the design system team in a contribution-based model to feed search- and navigation-specific UI patterns, components, and documentation back into the design system.
- Ramp up rapidly on existing research, context, and technical constraints when shifting between workstreams.
COMPETENCY:
- Context Fluidity & Adaptability: Thrives in ambiguous environments, quickly context-switching between different core surfaces without loss of quality or momentum.
- Design Craft & Execution: Demonstrates balance across visual UI detail, interaction design, and holistic UX problem-solving.
- Systemic Thinking: Identifies overlapping patterns across surfaces to drive consistency and scale solutions through system-level thinking.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners seamlessly across design leads, product teams, engineering leads, and design system maintainers in a contribution-based model.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Fine Arts, or equivalent practical design experience.
Required:
- Comprehensive digital design portfolio demonstrating solid visual craft alongside end-to-end UX problem-solving processes.
- High comfort level with ambiguity, shifting team priorities, and rapid context-switching.
- Demonstrated capability to quickly absorb context, domain logic, and user requirements when entering new workstreams.
- Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma).
- Experience operating within a collaborative, contribution-based design system workflow.
Preferred:
- Prior experience designing enterprise search interfaces, discovery experiences, or global header/footer navigation structures at scale.
- Familiarity with complex digital ecosystem implementations within healthcare, life sciences, or regulated enterprise environments.
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and modular content structures.
Experience:
- 3–6+ years of digital product design experience (UI/UX) across enterprise, complex web applications, or large-scale digital ecosystems.
- Proven experience working within context-shifting or embedded agency/consulting models where priorities evolve rapidly.
- Demonstrated experience contributing directly to component-based design systems and shared pattern libraries.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Professional verbal and written English communication skills. Ability to articulate complex design decisions clearly to non-design executives, engineering leads, and business stakeholders.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Remote. Regular use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment, including repetitive motions such as typing, scrolling, and mouse use. Ability to communicate effectively and understand verbal communication in person, by telephone, and through video conferencing or other remote communication tools. Ability to view and read information on computer screens and printed materials, including the ability to adjust focus. The position requires prolonged periods of computer use and viewing a computer screen.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Search Technology Jobs in IndianaTechnology STEM OPT Sponsorship Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
Which technology companies in Indiana sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Indianapolis-based employers with documented LCA filing history in technology include Salesforce, Cummins, Eli Lilly's digital and data teams, Anthem (now Elevance Health), and OneAmerica. Smaller technology firms and defense contractors in the Purdue Research Park corridor in West Lafayette also appear in DOL disclosure data. Sponsorship patterns vary by role and year, so checking OFLC disclosure records for specific employers is the most reliable approach.
Which cities in Indiana have the most technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the largest concentration of technology STEM OPT positions in Indiana, driven by its finance, insurance, and healthcare technology sectors. West Lafayette is a secondary hub, supported by Purdue University's proximity and the Purdue Research Park. Fort Wayne and Bloomington also have technology employers with sponsorship activity, though at lower volumes than the Indianapolis metro area.
How do I find technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters technology roles in Indiana by employers with active F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history, using DOL Labor Condition Application data to surface companies that have filed for STEM-eligible positions. This lets you focus your search on employers who have already demonstrated willingness to sponsor, rather than applying broadly and discovering sponsorship availability late in the process.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Indiana?
Roles that commonly qualify include software engineer, data analyst, data scientist, systems analyst, network engineer, cloud infrastructure engineer, and cybersecurity analyst. The position must appear on USCIS's list of STEM-designated degree programs matched to the role, and the employer must be enrolled in E-Verify. Indiana employers in healthcare IT, financial technology, and manufacturing automation frequently hire for these qualifying titles.
Are there Indiana-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT technology sponsorship?
Indiana does not impose state-level work authorization requirements beyond federal STEM OPT rules, but a few practical factors apply. Indiana's technology sector skews heavily toward enterprise software, health informatics, and engineering software, meaning roles that qualify tend to require specific STEM degree fields rather than general IT credentials. Employers in regulated industries like insurance and pharmaceuticals may have longer internal compliance processes before extending STEM OPT sponsorship offers.
