Which companies sponsor visas for hospitalists in Indiana?
Indiana University Health is among the most active sponsors, given its size and academic mission across Indianapolis and statewide facilities. Ascension St. Vincent, Franciscan Health, Parkview Health in Fort Wayne, and Beacon Health System in South Bend have also sponsored international physicians for hospitalist roles. Large health systems with dedicated HR and legal departments are generally better positioned to manage the sponsorship process than smaller community hospitals.
Which visa types are most common for hospitalist roles in Indiana?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for hospitalists in Indiana, since the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a medical degree. Many international physicians also enter through the J-1 visa waiver pathway, particularly Conrad 30 waivers administered by the Indiana State Department of Health, which allow J-1 holders to waive the two-year home residency requirement in exchange for practicing in underserved areas. The O-1 visa is less common but available for physicians with exceptional credentials.
Which cities in Indiana have the most hospitalist sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis is the clear center of hospitalist hiring in Indiana, home to IU Health's flagship hospitals, Ascension St. Vincent, and Community Health Network. Fort Wayne is the second-largest market, with Parkview Regional Medical Center being a significant employer. South Bend, Evansville, and Lafayette also have active hospitalist programs through regional health systems, and smaller rural hospitals sometimes offer J-1 waiver positions tied to HPSA or medically underserved area designations.
How to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana, with listings filtered specifically for roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Unlike general job boards, Migrate Mate focuses on international candidates, so you can browse Indiana hospitalist openings without sorting through positions that exclude visa holders. Filtering by state and role type helps you identify which health systems are actively recruiting internationally trained physicians.
Are there state-specific considerations for hospitalists seeking sponsorship in Indiana?
Indiana participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which is particularly relevant for international medical graduates completing residency or fellowship on J-1 status. The Indiana State Department of Health administers these waivers, and positions must be located in federally designated shortage areas. Physicians pursuing this route typically commit to a multi-year service obligation. Separately, Indiana requires full medical licensure through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency before a physician can practice, so confirming licensure eligibility early in the job search is important.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hospitalist jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
