Which companies sponsor visas for hospitalists in Michigan?
The largest sponsoring employers in Michigan are integrated health systems: Corewell Health (formed by the merger of Beaumont and Spectrum Health), Henry Ford Health, University of Michigan Health System, Ascension Michigan, and McLaren Health Care. These organizations have established immigration processes and have historically filed H-1B petitions and pursued J-1 waiver placements for hospitalists at their facilities across the state.
Which visa types are most common for hospitalist roles in Michigan?
H-1B is the most common visa for hospitalists already authorized to work in the U.S. For international medical graduates completing residency or fellowship, the J-1 Conrad 30 waiver program is a frequent pathway, as Michigan typically allocates waiver slots to physicians who commit to practicing in underserved areas. EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship also occurs at larger academic medical systems.
Which cities in Michigan have the most hospitalist sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its metro area generate the highest volume of hospitalist openings given the concentration of large hospital systems, including Henry Ford and Ascension. Ann Arbor is significant due to the University of Michigan Health System's academic medicine presence. Grand Rapids, home to Corewell Health's west Michigan operations, and Lansing, with Sparrow Health System, round out the primary hiring markets for sponsored hospitalists in the state.
How to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is specifically built for international physicians and healthcare professionals seeking visa sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter directly by state and job title to surface hospitalist positions in Michigan where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. This saves significant time compared to reviewing general job postings that rarely clarify immigration support upfront.
Are there state-specific considerations for hospitalists pursuing sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan participates in the J-1 Conrad 30 waiver program, which allows international medical graduates on J-1 visas to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to three years of service in a Health Professional Shortage Area or Medically Underserved Area. Michigan has rural and urban underserved communities that qualify, so hospitalists open to these placements may find additional sponsorship pathways beyond standard H-1B routes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hospitalist jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
