Which companies sponsor visas for hospitalists in Minnesota?
Mayo Clinic in Rochester is among the most recognized sponsors, alongside M Health Fairview, Allina Health, HealthPartners, and Essentia Health in Duluth. Regional critical access hospitals also recruit internationally, particularly in underserved areas. Sponsorship practices vary by system and facility, so confirming sponsorship availability directly with each employer's recruitment team is important before applying.
Which visa types are most common for hospitalist roles in Minnesota?
H-1B is the most widely used visa for hospitalists in Minnesota, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring an MD or DO degree. J-1 Conrad 30 waivers are another common pathway, allowing international medical graduates who completed J-1 residency training to work in underserved areas of Minnesota in exchange for a service commitment, which waives the two-year home residency requirement.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most hospitalist sponsorship jobs?
The Twin Cities metro, encompassing Minneapolis and St. Paul, has the highest concentration of hospitalist openings given the density of hospitals and health systems headquartered there. Rochester is a major hub due to Mayo Clinic's scale and international recruitment activity. Duluth, St. Cloud, and smaller regional centers also post hospitalist roles, often with added incentives for physicians willing to serve rural or underserved communities.
How to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters hospitalist jobs in Minnesota specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through listings that don't apply to international candidates. You can browse current openings across Mayo Clinic, Allina Health, HealthPartners, and other Minnesota employers in one place. Filtering by role and state surfaces positions where employers have an established record of sponsoring H-1B or J-1 waiver candidates for hospitalist positions.
Are there state-specific considerations for hospitalists seeking sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, and the Minnesota Department of Health designates Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) that qualify physicians for waiver slots. Physicians applying through this route commit to a minimum three-year service period at an approved facility. Minnesota's medical licensing board also requires verification of ECFMG certification for international medical graduates before a license is issued, which affects sponsorship timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hospitalist jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
