Search Hospitalist Jobs in WisconsinHospitalist Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for hospitalists in Wisconsin?
UW Health in Madison, Froedtert Health in Milwaukee, Ascension Wisconsin, Aurora Health Care, and Gundersen Health System in La Crosse are among the Wisconsin health systems with documented H-1B sponsorship activity for hospitalist physicians. Large academic medical centers and regional hospital networks tend to have dedicated HR and legal resources to support the sponsorship process, making them more likely candidates than smaller independent practices.
Which visa types are most common for hospitalist roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for hospitalists in Wisconsin, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a medical degree. J-1 visa waiver positions are also significant, particularly through Wisconsin's Conrad 30 program, which places international medical graduates in underserved areas in exchange for a waiver of the J-1 home residency requirement. Some physicians also transition through O-1 visa or TN visas depending on their nationality and credentials.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most hospitalist sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee and Madison account for the largest share of hospitalist positions in Wisconsin, driven by major health systems and academic medical centers including UW Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin affiliated hospitals. Green Bay, Appleton, and Racine also have notable hospital employment bases. Rural and underserved areas across Wisconsin sometimes offer additional opportunities tied to J-1 waiver programs that prioritize geographic need.
How to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international physicians and other professionals seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for hospitalist roles in Wisconsin to see positions from employers with active or historical sponsorship activity. This saves significant time compared to manually screening general job listings, since Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on roles where sponsorship is part of the employer's hiring approach.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for international hospitalists?
Wisconsin participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which is particularly relevant for international medical graduates completing residency on a J-1 visa. Positions under this program typically require a multi-year service commitment in a health professional shortage area or medically underserved area within the state. Physicians pursuing this path should work closely with an immigration attorney and confirm program availability annually, as Conrad 30 slots are limited per state per fiscal year.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hospitalist jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
