Which companies sponsor visas for investment roles in Iowa?
Principal Financial Group, headquartered in Des Moines, is one of Iowa's most consistent visa sponsors across investment, asset management, and financial analysis roles. Wells Fargo's regional operations, Nationwide, and smaller registered investment advisors in the Des Moines metro have also filed sponsorships for finance professionals. Sponsorship decisions vary by role, team, and business need, so confirming directly with each employer is always the right approach.
Which visa types are most common for investment roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for investment roles in Iowa, covering positions like financial analyst, portfolio analyst, and quantitative analyst where a relevant bachelor's degree is typically required. The O-1A is an option for candidates with demonstrated extraordinary achievement in finance or investment management. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, which follows a similar process to the H-1B but without the annual lottery.
Which cities in Iowa have the most investment sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines is by far Iowa's primary hub for investment sponsorship jobs, driven by its concentration of insurance companies, asset managers, and regional banks. The city's financial services sector includes national firms with local headquarters and back-office operations. Cedar Rapids has a smaller but active finance community, while Iowa City and Ames occasionally produce sponsorship opportunities tied to university-affiliated research and financial operations.
How to find investment visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles in the U.S., including investment positions in Iowa. You can filter by state and role type to surface employers who have sponsored visas for finance and investment jobs in Iowa. Focusing your search on Des Moines-based firms in asset management, insurance, and banking will give you the most relevant results.
Are there state-specific considerations for investment sponsorship roles in Iowa?
Iowa does not impose state-level visa requirements, but employers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage rules when filing a Labor Condition Application for H-1B roles. Iowa's cost of living is lower than coastal financial centers, which affects prevailing wage benchmarks. University of Iowa and Iowa State University both have graduate finance programs that create a local pipeline, meaning some employers are already familiar with sponsoring international candidates at the graduate level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored investment jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
