Which visa types are most common for manufacturing associate roles in Iowa?
H-1B is the most common visa for manufacturing associates whose roles require at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing technology, or a related field. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles. Are there state-specific considerations for manufacturing associate visa sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa's manufacturing sector is heavily tied to agriculture and industrial equipment, meaning many associate roles require technical knowledge aligned with those industries. Employers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for H-1B sponsorships, which are determined by the specific occupation code and Iowa regional wage data. Iowa State University and the University of Iowa also create pipelines of international graduates who may transition into sponsored manufacturing roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored manufacturing associate jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
