Which companies sponsor visas for operations interns in Iowa?
Large Iowa employers with established international hiring programs include Principal Financial Group, Transamerica, Collins Aerospace, John Deere, and Hy-Vee. These companies have the HR infrastructure to support visa sponsorship for intern-to-full-time pipelines. Smaller regional employers or nonprofits may offer operations intern roles but are less likely to have sponsorship capacity. Targeting employers with 500 or more employees generally improves your odds.
Which visa types are most common for operations intern roles in Iowa?
F-1 OPT and STEM OPT are the most common work authorizations for operations interns in Iowa, allowing students from accredited U.S. universities to work without employer-sponsored petitions during their authorized period. For post-graduation full-time conversion, the H-1B is the primary sponsored pathway, though it requires employer sponsorship and cap selection. Operations roles in manufacturing or supply chain may qualify as specialty occupations if a degree in a related field is required.
Which cities in Iowa have the most operations intern sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines is Iowa's primary hub for operations intern opportunities, driven by its insurance, financial services, and corporate headquarters concentration. Cedar Rapids has a strong manufacturing and logistics base, with employers like Collins Aerospace and CRST International offering relevant roles. Iowa City benefits from University of Iowa affiliations, including healthcare operations positions. Ames sees some activity tied to Iowa State University research and agribusiness operations.
How to find operations intern visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it easier to identify Iowa employers actively open to sponsoring international operations interns. You can search by role and state to surface relevant openings at companies like Principal Financial Group or Collins Aerospace. Cross-referencing DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data can also confirm which Iowa employers have filed sponsorships for similar roles historically.
Are there state-specific considerations for operations intern sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa's prevailing wage requirements for sponsored roles are benchmarked to the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids metropolitan areas, which tend to be lower than coastal markets, making sponsorship somewhat more accessible for employers managing costs. Iowa State University and the University of Iowa produce strong pipelines of international students pursuing business and engineering degrees, so many Iowa employers are familiar with OPT and STEM OPT authorization processes before any H-1B sponsorship decision arises.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored operations intern jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
