Which companies in Kansas sponsor visas for mechanical engineers?
Spirit AeroSystems and Textron Aviation in Wichita are among the most active sponsors, given Kansas's deep aerospace manufacturing base. AGCO Corporation sponsors engineers for agricultural equipment development, and companies in the refining and energy sector connected to Koch Industries have also filed sponsorship petitions. Defense contractors supporting McConnell Air Force Base represent another consistent source of mechanical engineering sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for mechanical engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for mechanical engineers in Kansas, as the role generally qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Candidates from Australia may pursue the E-3 visa instead. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose job duties align with the USMCA engineer category.
Which cities in Kansas have the most mechanical engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wichita is by far the leading city, driven by its concentration of aerospace and aviation manufacturers that regularly hire and sponsor mechanical engineers. Kansas City (on the Kansas side) has a secondary cluster of industrial manufacturing and engineering firms. Parsons and other smaller industrial towns occasionally generate openings, but Wichita accounts for the majority of visa-sponsored mechanical engineering positions in the state.
How to find mechanical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search mechanical engineer roles in Kansas without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Given that Wichita's aerospace sector drives most demand, filtering by that city on Migrate Mate is a practical starting point. Setting up alerts for mechanical engineer postings ensures you see new sponsored openings from Kansas employers as they appear.
Are there state-specific factors mechanical engineers should know when pursuing sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas's mechanical engineering market is heavily tied to aerospace, which means employers like Spirit AeroSystems are experienced with the H-1B process and have established immigration support structures. Wichita State University's engineering programs also create a local pipeline that some employers tap before looking internationally, so demonstrating specialized skills, such as composite materials, avionics integration, or precision machining, strengthens a sponsored candidacy. Prevailing wage requirements apply statewide and are determined by the specific role and location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanical engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
