Which companies sponsor visas for senior software development engineers in Kansas?
Garmin International in Olathe is one of the most active H-1B sponsors for senior software engineers in Kansas, filing petitions for roles in embedded systems and navigation software. Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in Kansas City, T-Mobile's regional offices, and defense contractors like Spirit AeroSystems also have documented sponsorship histories for senior engineering positions. Larger employers with established HR infrastructure are generally better positioned to navigate the sponsorship process.
Which visa types are most common for senior software development engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software development engineers in Kansas, as these roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary achievement may explore the O-1A. Canadians and Mexicans working in software may qualify for TN status. Employers with existing multinational operations sometimes use the L-1B for intracompany transfers of engineers with specialized knowledge.
Which cities in Kansas have the most senior software development engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Kansas City metro, particularly Overland Park and Lenexa on the Kansas side, accounts for the largest share of senior software development engineer sponsorship activity in the state. Olathe is significant due to Garmin's headquarters presence. Wichita sees sponsorship activity primarily through aerospace and defense technology firms. Lawrence, home to the University of Kansas, has a smaller but growing technology employer base that occasionally supports senior engineering roles.
How to find senior software development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to browse senior software development engineer openings in Kansas without sorting through postings from employers who don't sponsor. You can filter by location to focus on the Kansas City metro, Overland Park, or Wichita. Migrate Mate also surfaces employers with verified sponsorship histories, which is particularly useful for senior engineering roles where the hiring timeline and petition process require employer commitment upfront.
What should senior software development engineers know about visa sponsorship in Kansas specifically?
Kansas employers sponsoring H-1B petitions for senior software development engineers must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor certifying the offered wage meets prevailing wage levels for the role and location. Because Kansas City straddles the state line, some positions listed as 'Kansas City' may technically be in Missouri, which affects the LCA jurisdiction. Senior-level roles requiring management of technical teams or specialized system architecture expertise can sometimes support stronger specialty occupation arguments during petition review.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software development engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
