Which companies sponsor visas for senior software engineers in Kansas?
Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in Kansas City is one of the most active H-1B sponsors for senior software engineering roles in Kansas, given its large engineering workforce. Garmin, headquartered in Olathe, also has a consistent sponsorship record. Smaller firms in fintech, agtech, and healthcare IT in the Kansas City corridor regularly file H-1B petitions for experienced software engineers as well.
Which visa types are most common for senior software engineering roles in Kansas?
The H-1B visa is the most common path for senior software engineers in Kansas, as these roles typically meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some engineers with Canadian or Mexican citizenship use the TN visa. Those with extraordinary ability or exceptional contributions may qualify for the O-1A. Intracompany transfers to Kansas offices can use the L-1B.
Which cities in Kansas have the most senior software engineering sponsorship jobs?
The Kansas City metro area, including Overland Park, Olathe, and Lenexa on the Kansas side, accounts for the large majority of senior software engineering sponsorship activity in the state. This corridor hosts the headquarters of Oracle Health, Garmin, and numerous mid-size tech and healthcare IT companies. Wichita is a secondary market, primarily for software roles tied to aerospace and manufacturing companies like Spirit AeroSystems and Koch Industries affiliates.
How to find senior software engineering visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters senior software engineering jobs in Kansas specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from manually vetting each employer. Because sponsorship willingness varies significantly even among large Kansas employers, using Migrate Mate to browse verified sponsoring companies in cities like Overland Park and Olathe is more efficient than general searches. You can narrow results by role seniority and location to surface the most relevant active openings.
Are there state-specific considerations for senior software engineers seeking sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas does not have a state-level visa program, so federal H-1B rules apply. One practical consideration is that the Kansas City tech market spans both Kansas and Missouri, so employers headquartered in Missouri may also sponsor roles for Kansas-based positions. Senior-level roles are generally stronger H-1B candidates because they more clearly satisfy the specialty occupation requirement and prevailing wage obligations that the Department of Labor assesses at the Level III or Level IV wage tier.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software engineering jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
