Which companies sponsor visas for senior software engineers in Texas?
Large technology employers with significant Texas footprints, including Dell Technologies, Oracle, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, regularly sponsor senior software engineers. Beyond those names, fintech firms in Dallas, semiconductor companies in Austin such as NXP Semiconductors, and energy-technology companies in Houston also file H-1B petitions for senior engineering roles. Defense contractors like Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth are active sponsors as well.
Which visa types are most common for senior software engineering roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for senior software engineers in Texas, given that the role meets the specialty occupation requirement with a directly related degree. Multinational engineers transferring from a parent or affiliate company often use the L-1A or L-1B. Candidates with exceptional accomplishments may qualify for the O-1A. Canadians and Mexicans working in software roles may also be eligible for the TN visa under USMCA.
Which cities in Texas have the most senior software engineering sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads the state for senior software engineering sponsorship, anchored by a dense cluster of tech companies and a large UT Austin graduate pipeline. Dallas and its suburbs, particularly Plano and Irving, are strong second, with major corporate headquarters driving demand. Houston adds opportunities across energy-tech, healthcare IT, and aerospace software. San Antonio has a growing cybersecurity sector, partly supported by proximity to military installations.
How to find senior software engineering visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, so you can browse senior software engineering roles in Texas without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. The platform aggregates openings from Texas employers across Austin, Dallas, Houston, and beyond who have a documented history of sponsoring work visas, saving time for candidates on H-1B, OPT, or other work authorization timelines.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for senior software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects the prevailing wage calculation employers submit to the Department of Labor, since wage benchmarks are set at the federal and metro-area level rather than adjusted for state tax. Austin's rapid growth has pushed prevailing wages for senior software engineers higher in recent years. Employers at large Texas research universities such as UT Austin and Texas A&M also sponsor engineers through cap-exempt H-1B pathways.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software engineering jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
