Which companies sponsor visas for senior software engineers in Nebraska?
Omaha-based employers are the most active sponsors for senior software engineering roles in Nebraska. Companies like Union Pacific, Mutual of Omaha, First National Bank of Omaha, and Cabela's parent company Bass Pro Shops have histories of sponsoring H-1B visas for senior engineers. PaymentVision, Nelnet, and several healthcare technology firms in the region also appear in Department of Labor disclosure data for senior-level engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for senior software engineering roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software engineers in Nebraska, as these roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Senior engineers already holding H-1B status elsewhere may transfer to a Nebraska employer. The O-1A is an option for engineers with documented exceptional achievements, and TN status covers Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most senior software engineering sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the large majority of senior software engineering sponsorship activity in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and logistics technology employers. Lincoln is the secondary market, supported by the University of Nebraska system, state government IT contracts, and a growing startup community. Smaller hiring activity exists in Bellevue, which benefits from proximity to Offutt Air Force Base and defense-adjacent technology contractors.
How to find senior software engineering visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for senior software engineering roles in Nebraska without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. You can filter by state and seniority level to surface relevant openings at Nebraska employers actively sponsoring visas. This saves time compared to manually researching each company's sponsorship history before applying.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for senior software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Nebraska's Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations apply to H-1B petitions filed for positions in the state, and senior-level roles are classified at higher wage levels than entry or mid-level positions, which means employers must meet correspondingly higher wage floors. Nebraska's relatively lower cost of living compared to coastal tech hubs can make compensation packages competitive in real terms. The University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska-Lincoln also maintain ties with regional employers, creating some campus-to-sponsorship pipelines for engineering talent.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software engineering jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
