Which companies in Kansas sponsor visas for software engineering managers?
Garmin, headquartered in Olathe, and Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in Kansas City have established track records of H-1B visa sponsorship for senior engineering roles, including software engineering managers. T-Mobile's Kansas City operations, along with mid-sized fintech and healthtech firms, also appear in federal Labor Condition Application filings for management-level software positions.
Which visa types are most common for software engineering manager roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software engineering managers in Kansas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may also explore the O-1A, and intracompany transferees at multinationals may qualify for the L-1A, which is designed for managers and executives.
Which cities in Kansas have the most software engineering manager sponsorship jobs?
The Kansas City metro area, spanning both Kansas and Missouri, is the state's primary tech hub and accounts for the majority of software engineering manager sponsorship activity. Olathe, Overland Park, and Lenexa in Johnson County are particularly active, driven by Garmin and a cluster of healthcare IT companies. Wichita offers additional opportunities tied to aerospace-adjacent software roles.
How to find software engineering manager visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find software engineering manager roles in Kansas where employers are actively open to sponsoring international candidates. Rather than sorting through general job boards where sponsorship status is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces roles in Kansas's key metros, including Olathe, Overland Park, and the broader Kansas City area, where sponsorship is confirmed.
What should software engineering managers know about visa sponsorship considerations specific to Kansas?
Kansas falls under the Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for the Kansas City and Wichita metropolitan areas, meaning employers must attest to paying wages that meet the required levels for the specific location and job classification. Software engineering manager roles are typically classified at higher wage levels due to supervisory responsibilities, which can affect how employers structure sponsorship offers in this market compared to lower-cost metro areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineering manager jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
