Which companies in Illinois sponsor visas for software engineering managers?
Several large Illinois-based employers have established track records of sponsoring H-1B visas for software engineering managers, including Motorola Solutions, Zebra Technologies, Allstate, United Airlines, Walgreens, and CME Group. Large consulting firms with significant Chicago offices, such as Accenture and Thoughtworks, also regularly sponsor engineering leadership roles. Mid-size technology companies in the Chicago metro area contribute meaningfully to sponsorship volume as well.
Which visa types are most common for software engineering manager roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software engineering managers in Illinois, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, satisfying the specialty occupation requirement. Candidates already holding L-1A status at a multinational company may transfer into a managerial H-1B role. Australian nationals may also qualify through the E-3 visa for this role type.
Which cities in Illinois have the most software engineering manager sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of software engineering manager sponsorship jobs in Illinois, driven by its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial technology firms, and enterprise software companies. The surrounding suburbs, particularly Schaumburg, Lisle, and Downers Grove, also have meaningful activity due to major employers like Motorola Solutions and Zebra Technologies. Outside the metro area, sponsorship opportunities for this role are limited.
How to find software engineering manager visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and filters software engineering manager roles in Illinois by employers with active sponsorship histories. Because sponsorship is not always disclosed in standard job postings, using a platform like Migrate Mate that tracks employer sponsorship patterns saves significant research time and focuses your applications on companies that have demonstrated willingness to sponsor this role type in Illinois.
Are there state-specific considerations for software engineering manager sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois does not impose additional state-level visa requirements, but H-1B employers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage rules, which reflect the competitive compensation levels typical in the Chicago metro market for engineering management roles. Illinois universities, including University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern, produce a significant pipeline of international talent that feeds into the state's tech sector, meaning many employers in Illinois already have infrastructure and experience handling sponsorship for technical leadership positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineering manager jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
