The Press Box Co-op supports the construction and assembly of press box projects while gaining hands-on experience alongside seasoned team members. Students enrolled in JCTC’s Carpentry Program will learn and assist with wood and metal framing, trim work, flooring, drywall, siding, and finishing tasks as their skills develop. This role emphasizes safe work practices, dependable attendance, teamwork, coaching, and continued technical growth. All employees are expected to uphold the Dant Clayton values and company policies as outlined in the Dant Clayton Employee Handbook.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Models company values, respects others, and communicates openly and directly with team members.
- Follows all safety protocols, uses required personal protective equipment, maintains an organized work area, and asks for guidance when unsure.
- Learns and assists with framing walls, roofs, and floors using steel and wood joist construction.
- Assists with trim carpentry, including doors and windows, and with vinyl and tile flooring installation.
- Learns and assists with drywall installation and finishing, siding installation, and painting or other surface finishes.
- Practices reading drawings, taking accurate measurements, and safely handling tools and equipment under appropriate supervision.
- Accepts coaching, applies feedback, takes ownership of work quality, and demonstrates progress toward greater independence.
- Supports team members with assigned residential and commercial construction tasks associated with press box projects.
- All other duties as assigned, consistent with training, demonstrated capability, and safety requirements.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in JCTC’s Carpentry Program.
- Willingness to learn wood and metal framing methods, measuring devices, hand tools, and saws; prior construction experience is not required.
- Commitment to safe work practices and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
- Dependable attendance, punctuality, and communication regarding schedule changes or absences.
- Ability to accept feedback, work cooperatively, pay attention to detail, and ask questions when guidance is needed.
- Availability to work approximately 20–30 hours per week during the academic year, scheduled around classes, and full-time during summer break, subject to program and business needs.
Education and Experience:
Current enrollment in JCTC’s Carpentry Program; relevant coursework in construction is applicable. Previous construction, manufacturing, forklift, overhead crane, or scaffold experience is helpful but not required. Training and supervision will be provided based on the student’s experience and demonstrated readiness.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and walking.
- Capability to lift heavy objects of 50 pounds or more.
- Work in a production setting with exposure to changing temperatures and noise levels.
- Fine motor skills for precision tasks, assembling parts, and using equipment with vibration or resistance.
- May be required to push or pull objects such as carts, machinery, and ladders using hands and feet.
