Which companies sponsor visas for data engineers in Massachusetts?
Major sponsors in Massachusetts include Wayfair, Liberty Mutual, Fidelity Investments, State Street, Biogen, and a range of health tech and biotech firms concentrated in the Boston and Cambridge area. Large consulting firms with Massachusetts offices, including Accenture and Deloitte, also sponsor data engineers regularly. Sponsorship activity tends to be highest among employers with established legal and HR infrastructure for immigration filings.
Which visa types are most common for data engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B visa is the most commonly used visa for data engineers in Massachusetts, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT extension, particularly graduates of Massachusetts universities, are frequently hired before transitioning to H-1B status. The O-1A is an option for engineers with documented exceptional achievements, though it requires substantial supporting evidence.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most data engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the majority of data engineer sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, driven by financial services firms in the Financial District, biotech companies in Kendall Square, and hospitals affiliated with Harvard and MIT. Waltham and Burlington along Route 128 host a significant cluster of enterprise technology and healthcare IT employers. Somerville has grown as a secondary tech hub, particularly among mid-size data and software companies.
How to find data engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship roles, making it easier to filter data engineer jobs in Massachusetts by sponsorship status rather than sorting through listings where sponsorship eligibility is unclear. Because employers on Migrate Mate are listed with sponsorship context, data engineers can focus on opportunities where immigration support is already part of the hiring consideration, which is particularly useful when managing OPT or H-1B timelines.
Are there state-specific factors data engineers should know about when pursuing sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a dense university pipeline, with institutions like MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and Boston University producing large numbers of international STEM graduates who pursue OPT and H-1B sponsorship in-state. This creates competitive hiring conditions but also means that many Massachusetts employers, particularly in biotech and fintech, are experienced with sponsorship processes. The concentration of research institutions also supports pathways like the EB-2 National Interest Waiver for engineers with advanced degrees and research backgrounds.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
