Which companies sponsor visas for data science engineers in Massachusetts?
Large technology and life sciences employers are among the most active sponsors in Massachusetts. Companies like Amazon, IBM, Biogen, Wayfair, and MathWorks have consistent H-1B filing histories for data science and machine learning roles. Boston-area financial services firms, including Fidelity Investments and State Street, also sponsor data science engineers with regularity. Sponsorship activity is heaviest among companies with established legal and HR infrastructure to manage the process.
Which visa types are most common for data science engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for data science engineer roles in Massachusetts, as the position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension are frequently hired before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship. The O-1A is an option for candidates with demonstrated distinction in their field, though it requires substantial documentation.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most data science engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of data science engineer sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts, driven by the concentration of technology companies, financial institutions, and life sciences employers in those cities. Waltham and Burlington along the Route 128 corridor are also significant hubs, hosting mid-size and enterprise technology firms. Worcester and Lowell have smaller but growing data and analytics hiring activity, often tied to healthcare systems and regional technology employers.
How to find data science engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters data science engineer roles in Massachusetts by visa sponsorship. Rather than sorting through postings that don't address sponsorship, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with a documented history of sponsoring work visas for technical roles. Filtering by state and job category helps narrow results to Massachusetts-based positions that are realistically accessible to candidates who need H-1B or other visa support.
Are there state-specific factors that affect data science engineer visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts employers filing H-1B petitions must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements based on the specific job location, and Boston and Cambridge wages reflect a high-cost metropolitan area. The state's deep university ecosystem means many employers are familiar with OPT-to-H-1B transitions and have existing immigration counsel in place. Life sciences and fintech companies in particular tend to have structured sponsorship processes, which can make the experience more consistent than smaller or less experienced employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data science engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
