Which companies sponsor visas for senior researchers in Massachusetts?
Major sponsors for senior researcher roles in Massachusetts include Biogen, Moderna, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca in the life sciences sector, alongside tech-adjacent research employers like Google, Amazon, and IBM. Academic medical centers such as Mass General Brigham and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute are also consistent sponsors. These organizations regularly file H-1B petitions and have established immigration infrastructure to support international researchers.
Which visa types are most common for senior researcher roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for senior researchers in Massachusetts, particularly in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and computer science. Researchers with exceptional academic records or peer-reviewed publication histories may qualify for the O-1A. Those with advanced degrees and research that benefits the U.S. may pursue EB-1A or EB-2 NIW immigrant pathways. Universities and nonprofit research institutions may also access cap-exempt H-1B sponsorship.
How to find senior researcher visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters senior researcher jobs in Massachusetts specifically by visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through roles that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces positions from employers with documented sponsorship histories across Boston, Cambridge, and surrounding research hubs. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to parsing general job postings that rarely disclose sponsorship intent upfront.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most senior researcher sponsorship jobs?
Cambridge and Boston together account for the largest share of senior researcher sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, driven by the concentration of biotech firms, research hospitals, and universities in those areas. Worcester has a growing life sciences presence anchored by UMass Medical School and associated research employers. The Route 128 corridor suburban towns, including Waltham, Lexington, and Watertown, also host significant pharmaceutical and biotech research operations.
Are there state-specific considerations for senior researchers pursuing sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts research roles frequently require terminal degrees such as a Ph.D. or M.D., which directly supports H-1B specialty occupation classification and strengthens O-1A or NIW petitions. The state's dense academic ecosystem means many senior researcher positions originate through postdoctoral pipelines at institutions like MIT, Harvard, or the Broad Institute, which are cap-exempt H-1B sponsors. Prevailing wage compliance is determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific role, location, and experience level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior researcher jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
