Which companies sponsor visas for drivers in Michigan?
Large logistics and freight carriers are the most active sponsors for driver roles in Michigan. Companies like Werner Enterprises, Schneider National, and Amazon Logistics have operations tied to Michigan's automotive and retail supply chains. Regional carriers and third-party logistics firms servicing Detroit's manufacturing corridor also periodically sponsor commercial drivers, particularly for CDL Class A roles requiring specialized freight experience.
Which visa types are most common for driver roles in Michigan?
The H-2B visa is the most commonly used category for seasonal or temporary driver positions in Michigan, covering non-agricultural roles where U.S. workers are in short supply. The H-1B visa is rarely applicable to standard driving roles but may apply to transportation operations or logistics management positions requiring a bachelor's degree. TN visas are available to Canadian nationals in qualifying transportation-related occupations.
Which cities in Michigan have the most driver sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding metro area, including Warren and Dearborn, account for the largest concentration of sponsored driver roles due to Michigan's automotive manufacturing activity. Grand Rapids is a secondary hub driven by retail distribution and West Michigan logistics firms. Lansing and Flint also see consistent demand from regional freight operators and state contract carriers moving goods along I-96 and I-75 corridors.
How to find driver visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find driver visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan, with listings filtered specifically for roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Searching by Michigan and filtering to driver or CDL roles surfaces opportunities from freight carriers, distribution centers, and logistics operators active in the state. Migrate Mate updates listings regularly, so checking back frequently increases your chances of catching new postings.
Are there state-specific considerations for driver sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Michigan requires a state-issued Commercial Driver's License for most sponsored truck and bus driver roles, and international applicants must meet federal DOT medical certification standards. Michigan's prevailing wage determinations for driver positions are set through the U.S. Department of Labor and vary by county and vehicle class. Drivers operating in Michigan's heavily regulated automotive freight sector may also face additional employer compliance requirements tied to union agreements at certain facilities.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored driver jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
