Which companies sponsor visas for electrical project engineers in Michigan?
Michigan's largest visa sponsors for electrical project engineers include General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Stellantis, DTE Energy, Consumers Energy, and Eaton Corporation. Automotive suppliers such as Aptiv and BorgWarner also file regularly. Engineering consulting firms like AECOM and Burns & McDonnell have Michigan offices with documented H-1B sponsorship history in electrical project roles.
Which visa types are most common for electrical project engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical project engineers in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals under the USMCA engineer category. Candidates with extraordinary achievements may also explore the O-1A, though it requires substantial documented recognition.
Which cities in Michigan have the most electrical project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding metro areas, including Warren, Dearborn, and Auburn Hills, account for the largest share of electrical project engineer sponsorship activity due to the concentration of automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. Grand Rapids has a growing manufacturing base with active engineering hiring. Lansing and Ann Arbor also see sponsorship activity, partly driven by university-adjacent employers and state energy utilities.
How to find electrical project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers seeking sponsored roles in the U.S. You can filter by state and job title to find electrical project engineer positions in Michigan where employers have a history of visa sponsorship. This is more targeted than general job searches because listings are curated for candidates who need work authorization, saving significant time in the process.
Are there any Michigan-specific factors electrical project engineers should know about sponsorship?
Michigan employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for electrical project engineers in the specific metro area, which varies between Detroit, Grand Rapids, and smaller markets. Michigan's automotive industry concentration means many engineering roles involve ITAR-controlled technology, which can affect hiring of foreign nationals regardless of visa eligibility. Candidates should confirm an employer's ITAR policy early in the process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical project engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
