Which companies sponsor visas for electrical project engineers in Indiana?
Indiana-based employers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories for electrical engineering roles include Cummins, Eli Lilly, Duke Energy Indiana, Siemens Energy, and Subaru of Indiana Automotive. Large engineering and construction firms operating in the state, such as AECOM and Burns & McDonnell, have also filed LCAs for electrical project engineer positions. Sponsorship availability varies by project cycle and headcount, so confirming with each employer directly is important.
Which visa types are most common for electrical project engineer roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for electrical project engineers in Indiana, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3 visa, which follows a similar process but bypasses the H-1B lottery. Engineers already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT frequently use that period to secure employer sponsorship before transitioning to H-1B status.
Which cities in Indiana have the most electrical project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis generates the highest concentration of electrical project engineer roles in Indiana, driven by its manufacturing base, utility infrastructure, and corporate headquarters. Fort Wayne and Columbus are secondary hubs, with Cummins headquartered in Columbus sponsoring engineering talent regularly. Lafayette and Terre Haute also see demand tied to Purdue University's engineering pipeline and nearby industrial facilities, including pharmaceutical and automotive manufacturing plants.
How to find electrical project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for employers willing to sponsor work visas, making it easier to identify Indiana-based electrical project engineer roles without sorting through positions that exclude international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface active openings from manufacturers, utilities, and engineering firms operating across Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Columbus. Checking listings regularly is worthwhile since project-based engineering roles open on project timelines, not fixed hiring cycles.
Are there any state-specific or role-specific considerations for electrical project engineers seeking sponsorship in Indiana?
Indiana's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B LCA filings are determined by the Department of Labor using Bureau of Labor Statistics data for each metro area, so wages for Indianapolis roles may differ from those in Fort Wayne or Columbus. Purdue University's electrical engineering program creates a strong local talent pipeline, meaning employers often have existing processes for sponsoring recent graduates. Indiana's concentration in automotive, pharmaceutical, and energy sectors means project scope and required certifications, such as PE licensure, can vary significantly by industry.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical project engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
