Which companies sponsor visas for HVAC technicians in Michigan?
Large employers with significant facilities in Michigan, including General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and major commercial facility management firms like CBRE and ABM Industries, have historically filed for skilled trades workers. Hospital networks such as Beaumont Health and Henry Ford Health also employ HVAC technicians and have sponsored work visas for roles requiring specialized mechanical systems knowledge.
Which visa types are most common for HVAC technician roles in Michigan?
Most HVAC technician visa sponsorships in Michigan occur through the H-2B visa temporary non-agricultural worker visa, which covers seasonal or peak-load demand, or the EB-3 immigrant visa for skilled workers requiring at least two years of training. Some positions at large corporations may qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship if the role involves engineering-level HVAC design, though standard installation and maintenance roles are more commonly sponsored through EB-3 pathways.
Which cities in Michigan have the most HVAC technician sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, including Dearborn, Troy, and Auburn Hills, concentrate the most HVAC technician demand due to the density of automotive plants, corporate headquarters, and large commercial buildings. Grand Rapids is Michigan's second major market, with strong activity in healthcare and manufacturing facilities. Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Flint also see consistent demand, particularly from university campuses and public sector buildings.
How to find hvac technician visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify Michigan employers open to sponsoring HVAC technicians rather than sifting through general job postings. Search for HVAC technician roles filtered to Michigan and look for employers in automotive, healthcare, and commercial facility management, as these sectors represent the most active sponsorship activity in the state.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for HVAC technicians seeking visa sponsorship?
Michigan requires HVAC technicians to hold a state mechanical license for certain installation and contracting work, so employers sponsoring international candidates often require evidence of equivalent foreign credentials or a pathway to obtaining Michigan licensure. The state's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs oversees these requirements. Prevailing wage compliance under H-2B or EB-3 sponsorship must reflect Michigan's Department of Labor wage determinations for the relevant county and occupation.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hvac technician jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
