Which companies sponsor visas for construction engineers in Minnesota?
Mortenson Construction, Kraus-Anderson, and Ames Construction are among the larger Minnesota-based firms with histories of H-1B sponsorship for engineering roles. National firms operating regionally, including AECOM, WSP, and Kimley-Horn, also sponsor construction engineers working on Minnesota projects. Sponsorship decisions depend on the specific role, project pipeline, and whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree.
Which visa types are most common for construction engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa for construction engineers in Minnesota, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering. The O-1A is an option for engineers with exceptional credentials, publications, or project awards. Canadian and Mexican citizens working in qualifying engineering roles may also explore the TN visa under the USMCA professional category.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most construction engineer sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul account for the majority of construction engineer sponsorship activity in Minnesota, driven by ongoing transit, commercial, and infrastructure projects across the metro. Rochester sees demand tied to large-scale developments like Destination Medical Center. Duluth periodically offers opportunities connected to port infrastructure and regional transportation projects, though volume is lower than the Twin Cities.
How to find construction engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters construction engineer jobs in Minnesota specifically to employers who have sponsored visas, saving you from sifting through listings with no sponsorship pathway. You can search by role and state to surface relevant openings at firms like Mortenson or regional engineering consultancies. Because sponsorship availability changes with project cycles, checking Migrate Mate regularly gives you the most current picture of who is actively hiring.
Are there state-specific considerations for construction engineer visa sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota follows federal prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions, meaning employers must pay construction engineers wages at or above the Department of Labor's prevailing rate for the relevant occupation and location. Minnesota's large public infrastructure investment, including the I-494 and Highway 252 corridor projects, creates demand for engineers, but public-sector roles often come with stricter procurement rules that can complicate sponsorship compared to private-sector firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
