Which companies sponsor visas for new business development roles in Minnesota?
Several large Minnesota-headquartered employers have established track records of sponsoring work visas for business development professionals. UnitedHealth Group, Target, 3M, Cargill, and U.S. Bancorp have all filed Labor Condition Applications for business development and sales-adjacent roles. Mid-sized technology and medical device firms, including those clustered in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro, also sponsor regularly, particularly for roles requiring specialized industry or technical expertise.
Which visa types are most common for new business development roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa for new business development roles in Minnesota, provided the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, marketing, or a related discipline. The O-1A is an option for candidates with demonstrable extraordinary achievement. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA-successor USMCA, which covers certain business-related occupations.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most new business development sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and St. Paul generate the overwhelming majority of new business development sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota. The broader Twin Cities metro hosts corporate headquarters, regional offices, and a growing technology sector. Rochester has a smaller but notable concentration of roles tied to Mayo Clinic's commercial and partnership divisions. Outside these hubs, sponsorship opportunities are significantly less common, so most international candidates focus their search on the metro area.
How to find new business development visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and lets you filter new business development roles by state, so you can browse Minnesota opportunities without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Because employers on Migrate Mate are verified as sponsorship-willing, it saves meaningful time compared to applying broadly and discovering late in the process that a company won't support a visa. Checking the platform regularly is worthwhile, as new Minnesota roles are added as employers post them.
Are there any Minnesota-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for new business development candidates?
Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters means many sponsoring employers have in-house immigration teams familiar with H-1B and other work visa processes, which can make the sponsorship experience more straightforward than with smaller companies. The University of Minnesota also produces a pipeline of international graduates in business and management who transition into local new business development roles on OPT before seeking H-1B sponsorship. Prevailing wage requirements apply statewide and are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific role and Minneapolis-St. Paul or regional wage surveys.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored new business development jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
