UnitedHealth Group and its Optum subsidiary are among the most active sponsors in the state, frequently hiring senior AI engineers for healthcare ML applications. Target and Best Buy sponsor for retail analytics and recommendation systems roles. 3M hires AI engineers in materials science and manufacturing applications. Mid-size companies like Cargill and U.S. Bank also maintain active sponsorship programs for experienced AI talent.
Which visa types are most common for senior AI software engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for senior AI software engineers in Minnesota, as these roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field. Candidates with exceptional research records or publications may also pursue the O-1A. Australians can access the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa category for computer systems analyst roles.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most senior AI software engineer sponsorship jobs?

Migrate Mate's board is built for international candidates, so every listing is relevant to your sponsorship search.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for senior AI software engineer visa sponsorship?
Minnesota's strong university pipeline, particularly from the University of Minnesota's computer science and AI programs, creates a talent ecosystem that shapes how local employers approach international hiring. Employers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area when filing Labor Condition Applications, which are tied to local wage surveys rather than national averages. Healthcare technology is the dominant industry vertical, so AI experience in regulated data environments is a notable advantage for candidates targeting Minnesota employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior ai software engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
