Search Support Engineer Jobs in MinnesotaSupport Engineer Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for support engineers in Minnesota?
Minnesota's largest visa sponsors for support engineers tend to be enterprise technology employers headquartered or with major operations in the Twin Cities. UnitedHealth Group, Target, 3M, Medtronic, and Optum have all filed Labor Condition Applications for technical support roles in recent years. Consulting firms with Minnesota offices, such as Accenture and Deloitte, also sponsor support engineers placed with local clients.
Which visa types are most common for support engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for support engineers in Minnesota, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may qualify under the TN visa using the engineer or computer systems analyst category. Australians holding an E-3 visa are another group frequently sponsored into support engineer positions.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most support engineer sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul together account for the large majority of support engineer sponsorship activity in Minnesota. The western suburbs, particularly Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Plymouth, host significant technology and healthcare IT employers that regularly hire internationally. Rochester has a smaller but notable concentration of opportunities tied to IBM and Mayo Clinic's technology operations.
How to find support engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, so you can search support engineer roles in Minnesota without wading through positions that exclude international candidates. The platform pulls from employers with documented sponsorship histories, which is especially useful in Minnesota where sponsoring companies are concentrated in the Twin Cities metro and specific industries like healthcare IT and retail technology.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for support engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Minnesota's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are set at the metropolitan statistical area level, meaning wages in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul MSA are benchmarked separately from outstate roles. Support engineers hired into healthcare IT roles, which are particularly prevalent in Minnesota given the state's concentration of health insurers and medical device companies, may find sponsoring employers already experienced with the LCA and H-1B petition process due to prior international hiring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored support engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
