Which technology companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Mississippi?
Mississippi technology employers with documented LCA filing history include C Spire, Leidos, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and several state government IT contractors in Jackson and Ridgeland. University-affiliated research computing units at Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi Medical Center also hire STEM OPT students for qualifying technology roles, though sponsorship capacity and open positions vary by year and budget cycle.
Which cities in Mississippi have the most technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Jackson and the adjacent suburb of Ridgeland account for the largest share of technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship activity in Mississippi, driven by state government IT offices, defense contractors, and financial technology firms headquartered there. Starkville and Oxford see smaller but consistent hiring tied to Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi respectively, particularly for research computing, data engineering, and software development roles.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that routinely qualify include software engineer, data analyst, cybersecurity analyst, systems administrator, cloud infrastructure engineer, and machine learning engineer, provided the position requires a degree in a STEM-designated field matching the student's program of study. The O*NET occupation profile for a given role and the employer's LCA filing history are useful references for confirming whether a specific Mississippi technology position falls within a STEM-eligible classification.
How do I find technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Mississippi?
Migrate Mate filters technology jobs in Mississippi specifically by F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship eligibility, using DOL Labor Condition Application filing data to surface employers who have actively sponsored STEM OPT workers in the state. This removes the guesswork of contacting employers individually. You can narrow results by city, role type, and STEM designation to focus on Jackson, Ridgeland, or university-adjacent markets where Mississippi technology hiring is most active.
Are there any state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Mississippi's technology sector?
Mississippi's technology hiring is heavily influenced by federal defense contracting and state government IT procurement, which means many sponsoring employers operate under federal contractor requirements including E-Verify enrollment. This is relevant for STEM OPT because E-Verify enrollment is a USCIS requirement for employers seeking to supervise STEM OPT workers. Students should confirm an employer's E-Verify status and ensure the role is at a qualifying worksite before accepting an offer.
