Which companies in Missouri sponsor visas for backend engineers?
World Wide Technology in St. Louis is one of Missouri's most active technology employers with a history of H-1B visa sponsorship for engineering roles. Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in Kansas City has sponsored backend engineers in healthcare IT. Edward Jones, Centene Corporation, and Mastercard's St. Louis operations have also filed H-1B petitions for software engineering positions. Sponsorship patterns vary by team and hiring cycle, so confirming current openings directly with employers matters.
Which visa types are most common for backend engineer roles in Missouri?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for backend engineers in Missouri, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field. Some employers also sponsor the L-1B for intracompany transfers with specialized knowledge. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the NAFTA/USMCA Software Engineer category, which is a simpler process with no lottery.
How to find backend engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Missouri?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify backend engineer roles in Missouri where employers are actively open to sponsoring international candidates. Rather than sorting through general job boards, you can browse Missouri-specific listings on Migrate Mate filtered to backend engineering, focusing on companies in St. Louis and Kansas City where technology hiring is most concentrated.
Which cities in Missouri have the most backend engineer sponsorship jobs?
St. Louis and Kansas City account for the large majority of backend engineering sponsorship activity in Missouri. St. Louis draws from a base of financial services, logistics technology, and enterprise IT employers. Kansas City has a growing healthcare IT sector anchored by Oracle Health and a broader startup and mid-market technology community. Columbia, home to the University of Missouri, has a smaller but active technology employer presence.
Are there any Missouri-specific considerations for backend engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Missouri does not impose state-level requirements beyond federal visa rules, but backend engineers should be aware that prevailing wage determinations for H-1B positions are tied to the specific metropolitan area where the work is performed. St. Louis and Kansas City have different prevailing wage levels. The University of Missouri and Washington University in St. Louis also feed local employer pipelines, meaning some companies are accustomed to sponsoring candidates coming out of OPT or STEM OPT extensions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend engineer jobs in Missouri?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
