Nebraska's largest visa-sponsoring employers for IT support roles include Nebraska Medicine, CHI Health, Mutual of Omaha, First National Bank of Omaha, and the University of Nebraska system. Staffing firms contracting with these organizations occasionally sponsor as well, though direct employer sponsorship is more common for support technician roles.
Which visa types are most common for IT support technician roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa for IT support technicians in Nebraska, provided the role meets the specialty occupation standard requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field like information technology or computer science. Some positions at universities may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B petitions. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals where the role aligns with qualifying occupational categories.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most IT support technician sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the majority of IT support technician sponsorship opportunities in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of healthcare systems, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters. Lincoln is the second most active market, supported by state government agencies, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a growing tech sector. Smaller markets like Bellevue occasionally post IT support roles tied to defense and government contractors near Offutt Air Force Base.

Are there state-specific considerations for IT support technicians seeking sponsorship in Nebraska?
Nebraska's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are determined by the Department of Labor based on the Omaha or Lincoln metropolitan areas, which generally reflect mid-range national IT support wages. The University of Nebraska and Creighton University are cap-exempt H-1B employers, meaning they can file petitions year-round outside the annual lottery. Healthcare and financial services employers in Omaha tend to have more established immigration compliance programs than smaller regional employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored it support technician jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
