About Redwood Materials
Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we're delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
Staff High Voltage Electrical Engineer, EPC
Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff High Voltage Electrical Engineer to join our EPC team. This role is central to the design of high voltage electrical infrastructure to support our mission. Our mission is to build a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into high-quality inputs for new batteries.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead the design of high voltage AC electrical systems, specifically for industrial substations (69kV to 345kV) and their integration with upstream transmission lines and downstream MV distribution
- Review and evaluate the design of existing substations to provide recommendations for improving reliability and stability
- Develop single-line diagrams, physical layout and design, protection and control systems, relay design and coordination, and grounding plans for substations
- Perform grid simulation and stability studies using industry standard tools such as PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN OneLiner and similar software
- Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs to support interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance for new renewable and BESS projects
- Perform short circuit, load flow, and arc flash studies
- Develop relay settings using SEL AcSELerator or equivalent software
- Evaluate and select high voltage equipment including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, reactors, PTs, CTs, and protection relays
- Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record for assigned projects
- Lead code compliance reviews (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA) and provide technical guidance to internal teams
- Collaborate with civil and structural engineers on substation layout, foundations, and site development
- Support facilities, construction and commissioning teams with field engineering, testing, and troubleshooting
- Review vendor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings for technical accuracy
- Participate in technical bid evaluations and identify scope gaps
- Lead R&D efforts to perform feasibility analysis of using medium voltage DC distribution system for integrating BESS with other sources
- Independently manage high voltage design packages from concept through commissioning
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external consultants to align scope, schedule, and budget
- Prepare engineering cost estimates and execution schedules in collaboration with project controls
- Lead technical reviews and design optimization workshops
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development
- Develop workflows, templates, and standards for high voltage design and simulation
- Support strategic initiatives related to grid integration, renewable energy, and energy storage
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited program
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity. Must get their PE in Nevada and South Carolina within 2 months of start date
- Minimum 10 years of experience in high voltage electrical design, preferably in EPC environments
- Advanced proficiency in:
- Transmission-level load flow and stability using PSSE and PSLF
- Electromagnetic Transient Simulations using PSCAD, EMTC or similar
- SEL Relay Settings using SEL AcSELerator or equivalent
- Relay coordination and fault studies using ASPEN OneLiner or similar
- Power system modeling using ETAP, SKM, or similar
- AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office
- Preferred proficiency in:
- Design of HVDC systems and converter station
- Strong understanding of protection and control systems, SCADA, and substation automation
- Highly motivated, proactive, and detail oriented
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written, and visual formats
- Field experience in construction and commissioning of high voltage systems is highly preferred
- A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Which manufacturing companies sponsor TN visas in Nevada?
Nevada's largest TN visa-sponsoring manufacturers include Tesla's Gigafactory near Reno, which employs engineers and industrial technologists, along with defense and aerospace suppliers in the Las Vegas metro. Mining equipment manufacturers, food processing operations in the Reno-Sparks area, and semiconductor-adjacent facilities in Henderson have also filed TN-qualifying Labor Condition Applications. Sponsorship practices vary by company size and role, and no employer is obligated to sponsor.
Which cities in Nevada have the most manufacturing TN sponsorship jobs?
Reno and Sparks in northern Nevada concentrate the highest volume of manufacturing TN opportunities, anchored by the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, one of the largest industrial parks in North America. Las Vegas and Henderson in southern Nevada add defense, food manufacturing, and distribution-side industrial roles. Elko, while smaller, has mining equipment and extraction-support manufacturing that occasionally requires TN-eligible technical professionals.
What types of manufacturing roles typically qualify for TN sponsorship?
TN visa eligibility in manufacturing is limited to specific professional categories defined under USMCA. Roles that commonly qualify include industrial engineers, manufacturing engineers, mechanical engineers, chemists, computer systems analysts embedded in production environments, and scientific technologists. General production supervisors, quality control technicians without a relevant degree, and trades-based roles typically do not meet the specialty occupation standard required for TN classification.
How do I find manufacturing TN sponsorship jobs in Nevada?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by TN visa type, select Nevada as your target state, and browse manufacturing roles from employers who have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because TN sponsorship requires a qualifying professional role and a cooperating employer, filtering by visa type upfront saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship later in the process.
Are there any Nevada-specific considerations for TN sponsorship in manufacturing?
Nevada has no state income tax, which affects total compensation comparisons but not TN eligibility itself. The state's proximity to California means some employers operate cross-border facilities, so confirm the primary worksite is Nevada-based before applying, as TN documentation must reflect the actual work location. Nevada's manufacturing growth in electric vehicle supply chains and renewable energy has increased demand for engineers in categories that align well with TN-eligible occupations under USMCA.
