Which companies sponsor visas for drivers in New Jersey?
Large logistics and distribution companies are the most active sponsors for driver roles in New Jersey. Amazon Logistics, XPO, and FedEx Ground have significant operations near Newark and the Port of New Jersey. NJ Transit and regional trucking carriers have also filed for driver sponsorships, particularly for CDL-holding applicants with specialized experience. Smaller last-mile delivery contractors operating warehouse networks in Edison and Piscataway also appear in sponsorship filings.
Which visa types are most common for driver roles in New Jersey?
The H-2B visa is the most frequently used category for seasonal or temporary driver roles, particularly in delivery and ground transportation. For longer-term positions requiring specialized skills, the H-1B is less common in driving roles since most do not meet the specialty occupation threshold. CDL drivers with employer sponsorship sometimes qualify through employment-based green card pathways, typically EB-3, if the employer is willing to pursue permanent sponsorship.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most driver sponsorship jobs?
Newark and Elizabeth lead due to their proximity to Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal, one of the busiest ports on the East Coast. Edison and Piscataway host major distribution centers that generate consistent demand for local and long-haul drivers. Jersey City and Secaucus also see regular postings because of their warehouse density and access to major interstate routes connecting to New York City and the broader Northeast corridor.
How to find driver visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters driver roles in New Jersey by visa sponsorship availability, so you're not sorting through postings that won't consider work authorization. Search by role and state to see which employers have a history of sponsoring drivers in the region. Focusing on companies with distribution centers near Newark, Edison, or the Port area improves your chances of finding active sponsoring employers.
Are there state-specific considerations for driver visa sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires drivers to hold a valid New Jersey Commercial Driver's License for roles involving commercial vehicles, which international applicants must obtain after arriving. The state's prevailing wage requirements for sponsored positions are shaped by the high cost of living in the metro area, meaning employers must meet Department of Labor wage standards that reflect North Jersey's market rates. Transit-focused roles with NJ Transit may also involve additional background screening requirements beyond standard federal sponsorship processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored driver jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
