Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in New Jersey?
Several large defense primes with New Jersey operations have documented STEM OPT hiring histories, including Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon Technologies. Mid-tier contractors supporting naval systems, radar, and electronic warfare also operate in the state. Sponsorship eligibility depends on whether the employer is enrolled in E-Verify and whether the role falls under a qualifying STEM designated degree program, so confirming those details with the hiring team before applying is important.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most aerospace and defense F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Moorestown is a focal point given Lockheed Martin's Aegis combat systems work there. Mount Laurel, Cherry Hill, and the broader Burlington County area host several defense subcontractors. In northern New Jersey, Parsippany and Florham Park have aerospace-adjacent engineering offices. The Joint Base MDL region in Burlington and Ocean counties also supports defense-related engineering roles, drawing contractors who staff programs tied to the base's Air Force, Army, and Navy missions.
How do I find aerospace and defense F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa type and state, making it straightforward to search specifically for New Jersey aerospace and defense roles open to F-1 STEM OPT candidates. Because defense hiring often requires security clearance eligibility in addition to work authorization, filtering by both visa compatibility and clearance-sponsoring employers saves significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified STEM OPT filing history, so you can prioritize companies that have successfully sponsored international candidates in engineering and technical roles before.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in New Jersey?
Roles that qualify generally require a degree in a STEM field recognized on the DHS STEM designated degree program list. In New Jersey's defense sector, that includes systems engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, radar and sensor design, cybersecurity, and aerospace engineering positions. Program management and logistics roles without a direct STEM degree requirement typically do not qualify. The O*NET occupation profile for a given role can help confirm whether its standard educational requirements align with a qualifying STEM designation.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in New Jersey's aerospace and defense sector?
New Jersey defense contractors frequently require candidates to be eligible for a U.S. security clearance, which is a separate process from work authorization and can affect hiring timelines for international students. F-1 STEM OPT authorization is tied to a specific employer and role, so any change in assignment or employer requires a new authorization update through the student's DSO. New Jersey also has a strong subcontractor ecosystem, and smaller firms may be less familiar with STEM OPT requirements, making it worth verifying E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer.
